A Marriage on the Edge: This Week's Gripping Tale of Survival and Resilience

The Three Phases of Isa
Isa and Stephan, who met while Isa was a freshman in college, have been married for twenty-one years; a marriage riddled with domestic abuse. Tonight is their twenty-first year anniversary, where another altercation ensues. This time leaving Isa to fight for dear life. In a moment of mental escapism, she confronts the younger versions of herself attempting to gain the freedom she so desperately seeks.

Q: What was the inspiration behind the film?
A: I was inspired to redirect my purpose for completing this project, after learning about a childhood friend, whose life had suddenly and sadly been cut short due to the consequence of domestic violence back in August of 2019. And though the events in the film don’t directly speak to her own abusive experiences, the journey from romanticizing to needing to desperately grasp that moment of freedom that can ultimately save your life is a universal theme in stories of this nature. Her twin sister, Veronica, has since started a Facebook group/ a movement called Vera’s Voice. Where she has become a staunch advocate in helping more women openly share their traumas around domestic abuse and to find help. I also hope that through this film - I, too - can activate more people in crises in domestic abuse situations to begin their own examinations of when, why and how…. that can eventually begin their long awaited healing process.
