Q: What was the inspiration behind the film?

A: I had moved to Los Angeles in 2017 to live with Alex and Emil, the writers on the short. We were all very eager to make something but didn’t have any resources besides many talented friends. I challenged them to write something with no more than three characters that we could shoot in our apartment. They delivered this very funny script, and within two months we were shooting on a shoestring budget. In many ways, the story was born out of limitations. 

We were all new to the city and wanted to explore what testing a relationship looks like in a new environment. That was quite personal to each of us. As a director, I wanted to explore a more observational camera style with longer takes to let the comedy come from the actors – in their blocking, timing, and performance.

Q: What is your favorite city?

A: New Orleans, Louisiana. My hometown!
