Sequels & Reboots & Adrenaline! Oh My!
Hollywood shot into July with a BANG, and we’re not talking about fireworks. Blockbuster summer is in full swing with high budget films hitting theaters nearly every other day. Superman, Jurassic World: Rebirth, and F1: The Movie are reigning the box office, but with every perfectly timed explosion, dino attack, and car flip, we can't help but wonder: has storytelling taken the back seat?
It feels like studios are racing to keep our adrenaline high rather than our minds engaged. Many are saying this is the formula for success in this generation, but while they’re making millions, has anyone stepped back to see if they’re actually making an impact?
The success of Ryan Coogler’s Sinners gave modern audiences a taste of what happens when something original takes the stage. The bold redefinition of the horror genre wasn’t just a box office success, but a cultural moment. It was praised by critics and viewers alike and proved that a film doesn’t need a legacy franchise or to fit into any particular template to do well, it just needs to say something.
Meanwhile, this year's Oscars sweep of indie gem Anora showed us that even low budget films that tell stories we haven’t heard can still have a massive success and leave a lasting mark. It goes to show that audiences are craving something more real, more human.
Studios that prioritize original content like A24 and Neon are leading this shift by betting on fresh new voices and ideas. Here at NextFoundArtist, we believe that this is where the future of film lies. It is our mission to help amplify small filmmakers so that their work can be seen and shared on a greater scale, which is why we’re so excited to introduce you to a few of our featured artists today!
